NEW ALBUM REVIEW:

Away From The World

Dave Matthews Band

release date-September 11, 2012

As dysfunctional and disturbing the album appears to look like on the shelves and music stores this pass Wednesday, Dave Matthews pulled off another brilliant musical book without surprise. I finally got a moment to purchase the digital version through iTunes and so far I think We’re Just Here Pretending gives the album five stars.  When I first listened to the album all the way through, I went to spotify and tuned in. My mood was quite gloomy so I was vaulnerable to anything at the moment. Right off the bat I noted that Gaucho, number 4 on the tracklist, was my ultimate favorite. All of the instrument combinations always blow me away when it comes to Dave, but this album won my vote by far when it comes to good vibes. It certainly branches out and away from the promiscuous, heart warming, and jamming out related tunes that can be found in the band’s past albums, but this one is certainly for the better. DMB took a year long break last year to put this album together and Dave even stated that he is looking to take more time off in the near future to spend some time with his wife and children. (via)

Back in June my mother and I saw DMB at the Saratoga Performing Art Center during their two day visit and we attended the venue on that Saturday evening. The performances that were put on were absolutely phenomenal and then the atmosphere alone that I was apart of was even more memorable. As the band’s eighth album, I truly believe that the outcome was phenomenal with 1.2 million copies sold and an album of the year Grammy nomination. I believe that everyone who listens to this album can get something different out of it each time. Dave stated, “I feed this beast that I’m part of, and in some way I worry that it loses legitimacy. Then there’s the other part of me that says I’m really lucky to be part of something that turns a lot of people on and still turns us on.” (via) This other side of the band is one I encourage everyone to explore. Maybe you didn’t necessarily feel DMB’s vibe before and now you think you might? Try it out and pass it on.

On a side note, I would like to point out that there is a possibility that I will be sticking to a posting schedule which would be every Thursday. I have finally got to know my days at school and I feel as if one of the ways that I can stick to habitually posting is to make an extended commitment to this site that I love.

Happy Listening!
