One of my biggest pet peeves is when people are unorganized, messy, and all over the place. In order to avoid being that person, you have to be more prepared for…life. You have to think ahead, budget, plan, schedule, etc. AKA be an adult, which is something i’m slowly taking on. When I was editor of my school paper last year, planning ahead was something I learned very quickly. I had to research events in advance to cover as well as plan for stories that needed to be covered and printed in timely editions. Additionally, during the summer I work a lot at the gym and may not be home directly after a shift. Therefore I need to prepare my meals and clothing if I stay to workout.

Preparing meals may seem easy enough, but when you’ve had a long day, all you want to do is go to sleep and not think about the next day. However, I spend about 20 minutes with Tupperware packing for the day, especially if I’m opening. If I neglect this important part of my routine, I end up eating crap or spending too much on food that’s bad for me. Both is a fail that i’ll feel guilty about in the end.

Overall, you can see that a minor process of daily life has a greater impact on an individual, mentally and physically. Being prepared may not always come as second nature to most, and having a messy room might just be part of their personality type. I’ve come to appreciate this regular part of my routine due to experiencing my past failures.

Always look ahead and stay prepared for the future. Unfortunately you may not always be able to stay prepared; life is unexpected, but you must be ready for the unexpected. Learn from your past experiences to help prepare for what may come again.

Blah, blah, blah, what do I know?

I went to Maryland in July, as always, and everyone inquired about my plans post graduation (cross fingers for December), and I replied with something along the lines of ‘going with the flow.’ For writing, I could do anything. I’m not sure if anyone as made a career telling other people’s stories, but that’s the calling i’m currently following. Being an aspiring journalist, I plan to tell stories for people who don’t have a voice.

“What are you going to do once you graduate?” “Don’t you have a job yet?” “Don’t let anyone hold you back.”

So, I may not have the next few months or years planned out, but I’m also not trying to be boring by responding to my family with my five year plan. I like getting advice and I’m constantly inspired by others, so why shut that out by narrowing down my career to one task? I’m not about that, at least not yet. I plan to prepare for as much as I can and be open to whatever opportunity comes my way. I may not like being a journalist working at a newspaper, but I could like working at a magazine, or being a freelancer, or being a public relations representative for body builders, but I want to try all of that to see if it is my calling and I’ll learn something from each path.

My advice, be the villain in movies. They’re always one step ahead of the hero with detailed plans. Don’t be the vulnerable person who is friendly but ends up getting hit on by someone you’re not interested in. Look ahead and pick your feet up.

PS

My condolences on summer ending.
