April 22 is Earth Day! Today! Happy Earth Day!
Did you do at least one deed to save our planet?
Did you even check out the Google homepage today? Way cool.
I know I’m a little late into the day, but that doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate this existence of the earth we live in every day!
Here are ten ways to celebrate Earth Day with your family:
- watch the sunrise
- visit an animal sanctuary
- organize a group outing to an ‘outdoor museum’
- take an urban hike
- plant a garden (or a tree)
- plan a camping trip
- document a journey
- hit the slopes
- scavenger hunt
- make it a workday

But, for all of the readers like me who love adventures and the sunshine and just some great fresh air, you can do plenty of little things to show your appreciation.
- Don’t turn on every light in your house like I do… (only when I’m alone)
- Recycle! there are so many schools and colleges that are going green by recycling. My school has a room that you bring your recyclables to, to sort them out.
- Hug a tree! Duh, when have you heard anything bad against people hugging trees? Plants and trees give us oxygen so thank them! 🙂
- Become a Vegan. I have yet to explore vegan options for myself but this choice opens up opportunities to reduce water usage, petroleum use and it eliminates pollution from animal agriculture.
- Clean up your local park! I know it may seem like an ‘ugh do I have to’ type situation, but really, it should take barely twenty minutes to clean up a decent size park with a positive end result!
- Generate a compost pile! Find out how at Organic Gardening, you’ll be surprised at what can go into one.
- Watch Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax! It may be directed towards younger children, but it is actually quite and interesting movie about the environment and in high school my environmental science class took a trip to go see it in the theaters!
