What does one have to do in order to reach euphoria? This condition of extreme happiness and self-confidence.

It depends of course, on the type of person you are. Slow and steady or quick and easy. Can you experience euphoria more than once? Is it an alternate word for happiness? It shouldn’t be. What kind of word could simply be used to describe such a light hearted feeling? Save it for the most intense, life changing moments that no one else will understand unless they are you-er than you.

This journey can begin differently: through music, drugs, love, hate, or any other personal experiences. Everyone has to seek their own kind of happiness and then others have the right to interpret that anyway they wish. Personally, I find joy in beats, rhymes, scenery and differences.

Happiness. Its being with individuals you care about. Meeting new people with similar interests. Sharing exciting thoughts and ideas. Finishing each others sentences. Blaring music while driving around. Walking to class and taking everything in. Reflecting upon the past and realizing you just don’t care about what the future holds. There comes a time where thinking becomes too much and not one outlet has the capacity to to carry out the nonsense.

Thoughts drive you mad and eventually into a wall. It does not bring you euphoria. With thoughts come questions and with questions come the possibility of not receiving answers. That drives you mad. Curiosity killed the cat so move on. Thoughts bring you back to where you were before. That location isn’t always the best place to be. But maybe the present isn’t either. You hold the future in your hands and must determine the path in which you travel on.

It is the shortness of breath and waiting for more. The rush of blood that flows to your head after the thrill of a roller coaster ride. The reassurance of knowing that everything will be okay. Its a story that changes your life or a new outlook on things. That’s happiness.

The challenge is to escape happiness and enter euphoria once and a while. It’s located just a few emotions above the present. You’ll know when you get there because everything feels alright. Continue to experience happiness in your own way and at some point euphoria will reach you.

That’s the difference between me and the rest of the world! Happiness isn’t good enough for me! I demand euphoria! ~Bill Watterson
