As if the title wasn’t original enough, the night holds many opportunities for people of all kinds. I understand how strangely this sounds… Some people are night owls and work through the opposite hours of the day than we do, in which I categorize them as close to zombies. There are other people who have the best thoughts after dark and generate the most monumental ideas during these instances.
In the past, I have discovered short little ideas from my ‘dozing’ sleep stage to be the most creative ones that I have ever experienced. Soon after I close my eyes, weirdly animated visuals come to mind. (Weird as in a half horse half human kind of picture) I immediately grab the visual by its hair and wring out all of its emotions. I capture it in order to put together the few first lines of some random thoughts.
The night world is extremely different from usual day time activities. Some feel more vulnerable, risky, or even careless to typical behaviors. The ones that aren’t trying to stay awake at work are ‘out on the town’ celebrating weekly drinking nights; ie. Tipsy Tuesday, Thirsty Thursday, etc. They stumble home in hope to avoid the ‘drunken text’ and a severe hangover in place of work the next morning.
I’ve seen many night roamers out there walking their dogs at 1 am as if was a normal behavior; As if normal had one accurate definition. I’m sure that’s when they do their best thinking, with no one around, barely any birds to distract them, and no clouds to day dream into. Just their mind and the moon. What a perfect combination.
Everyone has a completely different writing process, and everyone has their own unique thinking process. Both require a set time and place in order to feel comfortable enough for feelings, opinions and judgments to be dispersed out of imaginable access point. When forcing bulleted beliefs into a phenomenal story, nothing will come of it. Similar to a relationship? A bad one of course. Putting all of your effort into it and supporting your significant other 100% all of the time, but receiving barely 10% in return. If the time and person isn’t right, then don’t argue against it. Ideas will not flow with barriers in between.
Find your time and surroundings to feel good enough about your feelings and any stories that are important. Everyone has a niche; it just takes the correct amount of time to locate it. First time experiences will enhance your search for one. Certain actions must occur multiple times before you can understand the focus, or feel content with them.
Take it easy.
