“I would say that a better understanding of each other should be a more common characteristic in this world.”

“I just wish people wouldn’t push their belief’s onto others, because then there is less room for them to express themselves creatively.”

Similar words flew through the air on our first day of public speaking class in English. We were told to chose a random card and speak about it for one minute. After observing everyone’s first speech, I was quite intrigued by the simple passion that my fellow classmates held for the topics that they spoke about in which they had little to no time to prepare for. Some described how in small schools, others enjoy sticking their nose in places it does not belong, and another student spoke about how individuals would have the opportunity to express themselves through creativity even more so if we learned to accept one another.

But why don’t we accept one another? We do not live in the utopia-like world thoroughly disclosed in the innovative novel, The Giver, whereas every human being is the same and not a single emotion is allowed to be revealed. Now let me take a few moments to state the obvious, every person is different, believing in different values, ethics, etc. Therefore, it may be difficult for some people to trust others and let them into their life because of the differences that are apparent.

The people that make me sick to my stomach are the perfects. Okay this is not Mean Girls or anything like that, but how could you live with knowing that you don’t approve of another person due to their looks or religion…what have you. Maybe that’s just how some people are raised though. I don’t exactly understand how anyone could be taught to only like people of their own kind, but that’s just me. Like I mentioned, everyone is different. I’d also like to add to that by saying imperfections are a part tolerating another as well. In any kind of relationship, flaws make the best of the situation. To understand one another is a wonderful thing because then comes the comfort and appearance of true feelings.

My classmates are surely on point with their statements. At least to my assumptions… If we could alter our current attitude slightly, then maybe we would be more welcoming of others. It’s that easy, right? I believe it comes down to appreciating the little things in life, because if you are capable of respecting an idea, a statement, then attach it to a person and respect them as well. If we gain a greater ability to represent ourselves through creativity, then we have reached a check point in life, I suppose.

Be kind, and have an open mind.
